I’ve blogged, time and again, about the importance of social networking. Building your contacts is of prime importance as a blogger. Having the right connections is what might be between you and a popular blog or you as a problogger, and a lucrative blogging contract. It’s easy enough making friends, going around blogs in your niche and making your existence known. What’s hard is maintaining relationships and keeping in contact with people so your network doesn’t degrade and crumble in time.

1. Make Networking a Part of your Everyday Life

If you’re currently working eight hours a day, schedule the ninth hour to be for networking. If you’re working online full-time, chances are you’re sneaking a bit of networking in your routine every hour or so. While it’s all good, networking would prove to be a distraction if you employ such methods. It would then be better to stick to that hour or so a day purely for networking. Doing so, you make your presence known more and people don’t end up forgetting about you completely. And besides, it’s a great way to build up backlinks, nofollow or not.

2. Keep in Touch

When your online friends email you, always send a response. It doesn’t matter how short it is, or if it’s been many days since, what matters is that they know you’re reading your mails.

3. Make Friends With Newer Bloggers

Don’t get complacent with your existing circle. The Internet is dynamic. Old bloggers retire and new bloggers surface every second. These new faces may be tomorrow’s top bloggers and it won’t hurt having new friends along the way. Keep making new friends and don’t forget the old ones — that’s pretty much the sum of it all. If you can keep it up, you’ve achieved your goal.
