Places for Online Social Networking
Social networking is considered an essential part of being a blogger. It’s true you can optimize your web site and wait until the visitors drop by if you want to.
However, expect the traffic to be slow for a long time. I’ve discussed why networking is very important for bloggers before but I don’t think I’ve given a list of online venues wherein you can promote your blogs. Though I’m sure most bloggers could find their way on their own, let me at least share what I know.
1. Other Blogs
The most logical place for online social networking, of course, is other blogs. They don’t even have to be other blogs in your niche either. Just include links to your comments without being spammy. Strike up a chat with the other readers and just be plain sociable.
2. Social Networking Web Sites
Yes, I am talking about web sites akin to MySpace. Join groups of relevant interest and add the other members in your friends list. Here are some social networking web sites you can join:
LinkedIn
Facebook
MySpace
Friendster
Twitter
Hi5
Imeem
LiveJournal
Multiply
Netlog
Tagged
Some smaller web sites are:
And many more. I’ll let you find your way on your own with this comprehensive listing in Wikipedia.
3. Forums
Forums are, I think, a perfect venue for social networking. You can’t just, however, add people to your friends list and forget about everything like you can on the other networking web sites. Constant interaction with the other members is essential to develop a positive reputation. Of course, it’s also a venue where you may be caught off guard with what you say and how you act which could be damaging, so always tread carefully and watch what you say because even if you edit your posts, you can never take it back.
