Bloggers’ Health Problems: What You Can Do About Them

Mariella Posted by Mariella

After discussing the possible problems bloggers face, this time, let’s see what we can do about them.

1. Eye Strain / Deterioration of Eye sight

If you’re still using a CRT monitor, you may want to save up and invest in an LCD. LCDs are less stressful on the eyes. You could also buy a monitor filter to minimize the brightness. When working, close your eyes every 20 minutes or so and relax. It’ll also do you good to have an eye drop handy. Never wash your eyes after a long stressful time in front of the computer.

2. Hand Strain or even Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in extreme cases

I’ve already discussed caring for a blogger’s hands extensively before.

3. Obesity

I don’t know about everyone else but I don’t have the time to go to a gym everyday. Even if I do have the time, working full-time and then going to the gym will probably kill me — stamina hasn’t been a strong point for me ever. What I could do, however, is take long regular walks. Even just walking around the lawn is better than not walking at all. You might also want to try to cut down on food intake. Sometime, we forget what we eat when we’re stressed. You could do away with excessive fats and sugars in your diet. Plan what you eat and things will be better.

4. Migraine

I don’t really have a practical solution for this. If you have a migraine, consult your doctor for a possible way to prevent it. Perhaps corrective eyeglasses or something else would help. You might also want to ask for a prescription whenever the headaches become intolerable.

5. Back Pain

If you find your back aching a lot, one of the things to consider getting is a more ergonomic chair. You could also try stretching every hour or so to loosen up your muscles. One thing I’ve learned, though, is that back pains could also be associated with stress. If you find that your back hurts a lot, go to a doctor, or better yet, take a vacation. You also need your rest, just like every other corporate worker.

It might be a bit surprising to know that problogging could also take a toll on you physically. So always remember that you’re not a superhero. Take a break sometimes, detox, rest, and just plain take it easy.
