Why Blogging Is More Than Just Writing

Writing

I’ve been hearing some complaints lately about bloggers who can’t write. While there are many who’d agree and for good reason, those who complain are mostly (not all) those who haven’t blogged professionally before. While being a champion of bloggers who can’t write is not my intention, other people also don’t understand that blogging is a lot more than just writing. There are many factors which go into blogging and it all has to be taken into consideration when gauging the success of a blog. You can be a Pulitzer prize awardee and no one would read your blog if you don’t have the right approach.

1. Promotions and marketing take the cake.

If there is ever anything which could propel a blog to blog stardom, it would be effective promotions and marketing. Writing great content would go to waste if nobody knows you exist. While great content would always produce a following, the success of one’s blog could always be determined by one’s promotional approach. Let’s think of it in perspective. Let’s say a critically acclaimed movie launches in theaters. The whole cast and crew knew how great the movie is. They expect it to be a hit. But then it was shown and it became a box office flop. A few months later, the movie was packaged as a DVD, people catch wind of it and it gains a cult following. The same could be said of a blog. Market and promote great content and you’re sure to have a winner.

2. Frequency of posts.

True, having great content would mean people could hang on to your words even if you don’t blog for weeks at a time. But most readers would forget you exist if you don’t blog for months at a time. Readership would dwindle and finally, blog would die.

3. Over-all package of your blog.

Does your blog appeal to audiences overall? Everything about your blog, from the design to the ads, matters. Even if you’re a great writer, if you don’t exude a reader-friendly atmosphere, the blog might not be successful. Always remember what audience you’re writing for and if you’re writing posts that are useful to them.

Content will always be important and a blog can’t exist without it. But a blog is so much more than writing and you can’t question the success of a blog based on one’s writing prowess.
