How to Handle Multiple Blogs

Mariella Posted by Mariella

Question

Whether you only write for blogs or own blogs, most probably you’re handling quite a few. Despite the casual and laid-back nature of blogs, it’s not easy having to think up ideas to write and there are times when you’re so dried up, you’d rather give up. In truth, I barely post on my own blogs because by the time I’d get to them, I’m already drained with having to write posts for other blogs. And then of course, not all your blogs would be on the same niche. Say for example, you handle a gossip blog, a tech blog, a personal finance blog and a health blog. In one day, you’d have to think of posts for this diverse range of topics and you’re expected to do so every single day. It’s so tiring just thinking about it, I don’t know how I actually go through with it. But I do.

Here’s how I handle multiple blogs in one day:

1. I segregate.

I have set time to work on each and every topic. I don’t dump everything in one pot, so to speak. When it’s tech hour, it’s tech hour. I think tech, breathe tech, live tech. When it’s finance hour, I think money. When it’s gossip hour, I’d up the tolerance for non-sense a little to troll the various gossip sources. Doing this, all the ideas don’t mash up inside my brain and my posts don’t end up half-tech/half-gossip (though sometimes, it happens!).

2. I plan my posts ahead.

Usually, unless something of an immediate nature comes up, the topics of my blog posts for the week have already been planned beforehand. This way, having to come up with ideas during the day is not a problem anymore. Even when I’m mentally drained, I find that when presented with an idea, I can still write.

3. I multi-task.

While structuring and formatting a post for one blog, I already start on my post for the next. That way, I don’t waste any time and get things done. Also, using this tactic, I don’t get distracted by other things.

4. I take mini-breaks

In between hours, I take mini 5-minute breaks to rest my eyes and my hands. This is important otherwise, I’d suffer from burnout.

5. I know what I’m talking about.

If you’re blogging about something that needs prior research, it’s best if you do some light reading on the subject before you start writing the posts. That way, your posts would exhibit a better flow than when you have to stop writing in the middle to read more on a term you can’t understand.

6. I stay calm.

Unlike the question mark in the picture, when I have something I don’t understand or if I already have a post due and I’m still doing something else, I stay calm and go from there. It helps not to panic.

Of course, I don’t always get to be all of the above. There are many times when I feel so harassed and just wanted to give up. However, most of the time, I just grit my teeth and plow on, knowing full well that in the end, it will be me who’s going to reap rewards. How about you — how do you handle multiple blogs on your own?
