How to Start Blogging
I’ve come across so many people who told me that they’d love to start blogging. Unfortunately it’s either “they don’t have the time” or “they don’t know how to start”. I’ve heard so many excuses over the years (though yes, some are valid). But if you really DO want to start blogging, you would be able to find ways. Here are some tips tailored for first-time bloggers.
1. A Bit of Your Time is All That You Need
Unless you are a full-time problogger, there’s no reason to spend 40 hours a week working on your blog. Just a bit of time spent after you get home from work or from school would do. Put in some hours during the weekend too, if you like. Before you know it, these hours have added up and you’ve already started something worthwhile.
2. You Don’t Need To Be (Too) Tech-Savvy
A basic knowledge of HTML coding would do. As a beginner, you don’t need to learn how to install a WordPress blog yet or create your own web site. You can start small if you want to. Use free blogs like wordpress.com, Blogger, Livejournal, etcetera. You’ll learn the technical part of blogging as you gain more experience — but you’ll never gain that experience unless you start somewhere. Sure, it’s nice to have your own customized blog that’s tailored to suit your tastes. But just think of using free blog web sites as your entry to the blogosphere.
3. You want to build Solid Readership? Concentrate on a Niche
Unless your life is extremely colorful and you have solid writing skills to back it up and make it extremely tempting to read, you would want to concentrate on a niche. Just think of what interests you the most and go from there.
4. You need to know How to Socialize
You can go back to my earlier posts and see just how important building a network is when blogging. Participate in discussion boards, visit other blogs in your niche, and just be friendly.
5. Have Fun and Love What You Do
Blogging was meant to be fun — at least I believe so. Don’t pressure yourself when blogging and just do what you want to do. You might find that being too serious would make you enjoy blogging less than you should. So loosen up and just have some fun.
