4 new themes

So I finally got round to finishing off a theme that I’d left sitting on the back burner. It’s a variation on Brian Gardner’s Frequency 10 - if you don’t know Brian’s work by the way, then go look now. The man is a veritable wordpress guru with more delicious free themes than Willy Wonker’s chocolate factory! Anyway, my take on the theme is called ‘Curiosity’, no surprise there, it’s simple and hopefully effective and it’s also available for download.

Which brings me to my next point: while I was playing around with the Curiosity theme, I ventured ever further into the underworld that is my 160GB external hard drive. I tell you, ’saving’ something on that thing is more like banishing it to Siberia! But by some stroke of miracle, I managed to salvage three other themes in the process! Not entirely sure if they’re of any worth to anyone out there, but I included them in my new Wordpress themes section (never thought they’d be a day!). The first is called ‘Blue Circle’, it’s a simple one-column theme based on The Undersigned’s RoundFlow theme but with the added glory of a flash header, yes that’s right flash baby!

The second in this ominous quartet is called Tarkovsky, after the great Russian film maker, a personal hero of mine. It is somewhat old fashioned and it’s intended that way! And the last one is a theme I was using here on Desperate C not so long ago that I’ve called ‘Pure & Simple’ and it is just that. I’m hoping to get these themes up on the Wordpress Theme Viewer, once I get accepted into the fold. That way I’ll be able to offer live theme demos…exciting!

Another thing I’ve had in mind, is to make a top 20 wordpress theme table, something that would be more ‘organic’ than just sit in the archives here, updated monthly. The reason being that there are so many good Wordpress themes being developed as the community grows and as a theme usurper myself, I am constantly on the look out for the creme de la creme. I thought it would be nice to start up yet another shrine to themes here at Desperate Curiosity.

But most interesting to me is the recent increase in themes from South East Asia (I assume China though, these guys could just as well be from Taiwan, or Singapore or elsewhere, apologies for my lack of judgment there, I just don’t speak the language), in any case check out the excellent work of Hoofei and Jay Kwong in amongst others. This got me wondering whether Wordpress China exists and if not then someone really should think about starting it. Imagine the potential…
