Setting Up A New Blog: Is It Like Falling In Love Again?
Posted by Mariella

A blog is set up every minute.
The number of people who are drawn to blogging only increase over time. Bloggers maintain several blogs — not just one — dividing their time among all their spawns. With the sheer number of blogs in the blogosphere today,
…a blog dies every minute.
People who handle multiple blogs on their own lose interest on some of their blogs. And if you say you don’t have one or two favorites among all your blogs, I’d say you lie. Sure, you try to give them all as much attention as you can, but in the end, you’ll find yourself giving the most of your time to some of your blogs. You then start thinking of giving up your blog and ruminate on whether to do so or give it a second chance. There’s no shame in deciding to give up some of your blogs. Sometimes, when we prioritize, we have to give up some things even if it’s hard for us. That doesn’t mean you can’t try to do it all over again.
I’ve talked to a colleague recently who’s given up one blog he was excessively fond of. During that time, his family really needed the money. Because he wasn’t earning from blogging, he made a choice and gave up blogging so he could concentrate on his day job and moonlight every once in a while. Now that he’s got some free time though, he’s considering getting back to blogging again. When I asked him what was holding him back, he told me that “it’s like falling in love all over again” and that it’s not easy to do that.
Put in perspective, my friend is no flirt. He doesn’t have any other blogs. That one he gave up was the only one for him. According to him, it felt like “breaking up” with a lover. Indeed, some of us get so emotionally attached to our blogs, we find ourselves pouring our souls into them. I don’t kid myself into thinking all bloggers love their blogs as much though. Truth is that, there are those who fleet from one blog to the next without much thought into it. But even this trait could be likened to humans.
How about you? If you’ve ever left a blog before due to your own personal reasons which you had since resolved, and now want to blog on that niche again, would you feel like it’s falling in love all over again or do you see it as something ordinary? If you do think it’s like falling in love again, is blogging once again on a niche you left easy as pie or does it take you a lot more time to fall in love with your new blog?
For me, building a new blog for a niche or another blog I left before is like falling in love all over again. You develop a relationship with your blog as you go along and it takes time for a blog to become indispensable.
