Probloggers Also Need to Care for Their Health

A lot of people working in a coat-and-tie rigid corporate environment might see problogging as something totally lax. Some, perhaps, imagine probloggers to be always wearing jammies, lounging in front of the computer while eating junk food. While it’s all very attractive to those who’re tired of the corporate environment, there’s no truth to that vision to say the least. While others view writing as something that’s not physically demanding, that’s not really true. There are many health problems which might spawn from having both too sedentary a lifestyle and a lifestyle that demands too much from one’s eyes and hands. Here are only a few I could think of, for now:

1. Eye Strain / Deterioration of Eye sight

Facing the computer all day, everyday, not getting eyestrain is impossible. The eyes are very sensitive, abuse them and experience great eye discomfort. You might notice your eyes would sting after a several days without rest and for good reason. It just means you need to get some rest. Deterioration of eyesight when you abuse your eyes is a given. Better be careful or else your glasses would be an inch thick in no time.

2. Hand Strain or even Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in extreme cases

As you plunk at your keyboard, you’ll notice that your hands hurt more and more as time goes by. In extreme cases, carpal tunnel syndrome might be a problem. Wrist sprain could be another one.

3. Obesity

You’re sitting around all day, doing nothing that’s burning calories enough to get rid of that whole gallon of chocolate ice cream you’ve just finished. Thing is, being busy might mean you forget to exercise and before you know it, time will come you won’t even fit on your computer chair.

4. Migraine

Spend long hours in front of the computer and see if your head doesn’t hurt. Even if you don’t have migraine, you’re bound to have minor headaches every now and then.

5. Back Pain

You’re bent double over your keyboard, you forget the proper posture. What do you expect? Back and hip pains are staples of being in a sitting position all day.

These are only a few health problems extensive blogging causes. You see, sometimes we forget we’re human and that we need some sort of reprieve. Next post, I’ll discuss what we can do to prevent these or help us cope with these ailments.
