Set Micro-Goals For a More Fulfilling Blogging Life

Micro-Goals

Have you ever heard of the old adage, “small things make a big difference?” Of course you have. A few days ago, the topic of setting blogging plans for 2008 came up. Whilst it’s great to have long-term year-long plans, reality isn’t so nice. You WILL encounter problems, work your way through snags, and by mid-year you might have forgotten all about your plans. That and the fact that it’s natural for people to get discouraged when they’re not getting what they want. To be able to solidly follow-through everything you’ve planned on, it’s best to work on what I like to call, micro-goals. These micro-goals will help you achieve your ultimate goals in the end. Accomplishing them little by little and one by one would help make you feel fulfilled and hence fuel the fire to your drive.

Set Daily, Weekly and Monthly Goals.

The first rule of coming up with micro-goals is to set up goals meant for specifics spans of time. Here are some suggestions:

1. Daily Goals

The most important part of the daily goal is, of course, to come up with blog post(s). It’d be useless doing anything else otherwise. No matter how stupid and inane that sounds, however, let me say that it’s exceptionally difficult having to post every single day. Merely coming up with an idea is exhausting. That’s why blogging may not be for everyone. If you’re the kind of person who only writes when you feel like it, blogging may not be that suitable to you. If you’re used to coming up with posts, however, this time you can set time limits for coming up with blog posts. The key here is improving what you’re currently doing. You should also take into account the daily douse of networking and bookmarking. Marketing is an integral part of blogging, never forget that.

2. Weekly Goals

For weekly goals, I would suggest coming up with a number of targeted posts per week. After the end of one week, you can survey if you were able to come up with the number of posts you had decided upon. You can also decide on the number of backlinks you want to build within a week. This really helps in giving you the added push to promote continuously.

3. Monthly Goals

One of your monthly goals could be an increase in traffic or page views, aside from an increase in back links. You can also aim for a number of new visitors per month so you’d know if your blog is growing or if you’re still catering to the same old audience. Knowing if you haven’t been having new readers would mean you can start a campaign to reach a new and a more diverse audience.

These micro-goals are designed to help you be more focused in what you want to achieve. Sometimes, we have to look more closely to be able to get the big picture and that’s what these micro-goals can do exactly.
