How to Launch a Blog without a Budget
Posted by Mariella
Remember my co-blogged domain project? I believe I’ve discussed how to co-blog with others and how to coordinate a schedule for a co-blogged domain. We’ve hit a lot of snags in the process, snags that are mainly my fault due to my incompetence with tech issues. It literally took me a week before I was able to figure out how to properly modify my WordPress theme and honestly, I still haven’t been able to fix a few bugs. However, I deemed it time to launch the blog already. Everybody’s getting impatient and I just want to usher the project out the door. BUT, as I have already mentioned, we’re strapped for cash. We have to make do with what we have.
When you’re penniless and want to launch a web site, how do you do it? Here’s what I did:
1. I asked my bloggers to announce the launch to their respective circle of friends. Around half of my nine bloggers are known authorities in their respective topics and have blogs and web sites of their own. To note, I ASKED them to help with the announcement. It’s important to treat them fairly, especially if it’s a project among friends.
2. I blasted the site info to people in my circle. I’ve been in my niche for around a decade now and have built a community of sorts on my own. I used all my blogs and web sites for announcement and it seemed to work quite well.
Using the two methods above, the results are as follows:

116 visitors on the first day of the official launch and 3 feed subscribers? Not too shabby, don’t you think? Especially since I haven’t spent anything on the initial promotion. In the next few days, we’ll also be doing these…
3. I will collect links of all the forums and blogs in my niche, divide everything among every one in my team willing to help with the promotion and start participating in discussions while dropping deep links to our new blog. This is one of our long-term promotional campaigns and I’m lucky enough to find people with enough free time on their hands to actually help me out. It’s basic marketing, really. You need to network, network, and then network some more.
4. I will add prominent blogs and forums in niche to the blog in hopes that they’ll return the favor. I’m not exactly sure if this will work, but I guess if we loiter around their domains and we have their web site linked, they’re bound to notice us sometime.
How about you? Can you think of a plan to launch a blog without spending anything?
