Does Google Love Blogs?
Posted by Mariella
A few days ago, I updated my personal blog about a very hot topic. A few hours later, I noticed the influx of traffic from Google through a keyword pertaining to that post. It only took a few minutes for Google to index my new post whereas I used to wait days before Google indexed my static web sites. A lot of people would agree to the observation that Google might indeed love blogs. In fact, Google has its own Blog Search Engine.
I also noticed that I’ve been getting long-tail traffic, meaning traffic from keywords not directly related to my blog, just because I’ve updated and Google indexed my blog posts. So if anyone asks me if Google loves blogs, I would answer a resounding yes. Why does Google love blogs, then?
1. Blogs Update Often
Google spiders love being fed new content. They’ll gobble up anything you throw at them. And perhaps it’s because of this blogs get indexed fast. Unlike static web sites which might take some time between updates, blogs get new content sometimes on a daily basis.
2. Blogs Are Timely
When hot stuff comes out, most likely, you’ll see it first on blogs. So aside from the fact that blogs update often, they also update news-worthy content. This is not always true, of course, but I believe that in many cases, it is.
So are we complaining that Google loves blogs? Of course not. Just an observation that other big search engines like Yahoo and MSN don’t seem to love blogs as much. I really can’t explain Google’s apparent predilection for blogs, but I don’t want them to change their way either because I benefit from it immensely. How about you? Do you think Google loves blogs and are you in favor of it or quite the opposite?
