It’s understandable why someone would be stingy in giving out links. For people who’re trying to dominate their niches, they’re scared of linking to the competition. However, showing some link love has its uses and advantages. Simply said, give and you will receive. If people realize you’re linking to them, chances are they’ll be interested in linking to you. And you do know what inbound links mean right? If the web sites linking to you are of higher Page Ranks, then that is a big plus to you.

More than just for the betterment of your PageRank, the inbound linkage, might of course bring in traffic and who says no to that? In short, the blogosphere is a love begets love environment and the stingy linker loses. So in short, you should link out to other blogs so they’d link back to you in turn. However, it would be useless if you won’t make known that you’re linking to a particular blog, right?

Therefore, here are some tips on how to (subtly) let your target web site know you’re linking to them:

1. Comment Frequently

Make sure to visit their web sites every single day if possible and leave comments on their discussions. Remember not to spam and try to contribute to the commentaries. The owner of the web site is more likely to give attention to you if you add to the intelligent voices in the community.

2. Email the Blogger Directly

I would not really recommend this. Many high-profile bloggers would not just add a link to their blogroll just because you ask them to. However, if they ever imply such or if your blog is related to theirs, there might be a chance they’ll link to you if you ask (nicely).

Using either (or both) of the two techniques mentioned above, hopefully, in the end, you’ll get your backlink.
