Blogging the First Few Weeks

Last time, I talked about what to do when you get tired of blogging. This time, I’ll discuss how to hold on during those first few weeks when you’re at a quandary whether you should continue or just give up before you put too much effort into the project. The first few weeks are certainly hard. Think of it as your first day in school. I’m sure you remember all the apprehensions you have felt during that time. Starting out is never easy in any field and with blogging, you’re probably alone running your own show so that makes it all the harder.

So, what are the key elements to help you plow your road to blogging success? Here are a few:

1. Short-term Goals are in Order

Long-term goals should also be drawn into your plans and truth is that, they will be your driving force in the long run. However, for someone who’s just starting out, seeing immediate results could make the difference between quitting and toughing it out. Set short-term goals upon reach so you’d get a much-deserved sense of accomplishment right in the onset.

2. Don’t expect to be Popular Overnight

If people don’t recognize you when you drop by other blogs, don’t despair. It’s hardly like you’ll be popular within just a few weeks of blogging. It takes time to build readership and more time to build substantial popularity. So instead of sulking in one corner of your room because your name still does not resound from everyone’s lips, just get to it and start typing that next entry.

3. Observe

I think I’ve mentioned it often enough. Observation is a necessary element to succeed in every field — bogging included. Reading advice like this article would only do so much. You need examples to emulate and you better choose carefully which to. While going through this process, however, make sure never to lose your identity or else you’ll end up as a second-rate copycat.

4. Work Hard

If your first few posts aren’t getting as much attention, work hard on crafting another one you’d think would be a hit. If that still doesn’t work, work even harder. It all boils down to creating a formula of your own and refining it over time.

5. Know What Your Readers Want

Ask your readers what they want to read. Better yet, do research on popular keywords. Work your content around what you had found out and discover the right approach. Do not, however, just write search engine content feeds. The purpose of this advice is to get in touch with what the demographic wants. Capitalizing on popular keywords might get the desired traffic.

6. Ask Advice

I’m sure you’re aware that as a blogger, networking with others is essential. In your quest for improvement, you would have come across more experienced bloggers. If there’s something you don’t understand or something you’d like to know more of, don’t be ashamed of asking advice from others. Admit to your being new and in return, you’ll learn invaluable information. If you don’t get an immediate response, however, don’t take it to heart. A-list bloggers are usually busy and they do get tons of emails regularly. However, some of them do respond so sit it out for a while and hope for the best.

These are some key points to help you keep afloat during the early days. Just like the cute bird in the picture though, you’ll grow in time and everything will fall into place. Like every other venture, perseverance is the key to success.
