Are You A Loner?

Mariella Posted by Mariella

I am a loner. Well, not entirely, but yes, I am a loner to an extent. I find that I carry this necessity for a few hours alone each day. Don’t get me wrong, I love mingling with different people, I don’t only have more friends than I could count but true friends which exceed the number of my fingers on one hand, I talk a lot and my whole family’s one noisy bunch, I have a voice which could shatter your eardrums in volume, I love going to parties, etcetera, etcetera. BUT, I still find myself with this need to be alone at times.

I need some quiet time to myself to be able to ponder and mull about the…finer points of life, so to speak. In retrospect, I truly think that one of the main reasons why I blog is because I am, as I said, to a certain degree, a loner. I mean, sure you get to meet other people in your community, but basically when thinking of what to blog about and writing your post, you get to be alone and you get to be quiet, in a place and time of your own. And I just love it!

So now I’m thinking, are many bloggers loners to an extent? And this question extends to even probloggers. Because even though you earn while blogging, you could get another job if you wanted to, something which puts you around other people all the time if you prefer that kind of environment. For bloggers who blog for hobby, aside from the fact that you like doing it, do you think there’s a part of you that wishes to be alone for a period of time and that’s why you blog?

I find that blogging to achieve a level of solitude each day works best for people like me who live with their families. There’s always noise around me so I need some quiet time. I bet there are a lot of moms who blog to make some time for themselves too. STILL, if you really don’t prefer some moments of solitude, you could always go out with friends and you can call that making time for yourself. That’s why I think many bloggers are loners to an extent.

So what do you think? Do you think yourself a loner? Perhaps it’s not obvious on the surface but there might be facets of yourself of which you are not aware. It’ll be great if you could discover a whole new side of your persona with my suggestion. Take some time to examine yourself get re-acquainted with your own mentality and character. Having a part of you that’s a loner isn’t bad. Just as the poem “Church Porch” by George Herbert says,

“By all means use sometimes to be alone;
Salute thyself; see what thy soul doth wear…”

You could get to know yourself better in solitude. And you can definitely get to know yourself in blogging. How about you, what do you think?
